Selecting the perfect interior color palette for your art will determine how the art will be perceived in your space. This raises the question: should you prioritize the art or your interior design style? Don’t dismay! There are strategies that will help you create the space that you pin and dream of, giving you the confidence to invest in a work of art, even if you're uncertain about how it will fit with your decor.
One effective approach is to consider painting or repainting the room where you plan to display the artwork. After all, who doesn’t appreciate a fresh coat of paint? I consulted several skilled interior designers to gather their top color recommendations that would enhance my paintings. You can find their suggested colors and insights below. Additionally, check out my tips on why it is important to invest in art that resonates with you, regardless of your current collection or decor style.

- Consider creating a gallery wall with your existing artwork to make room for a new piece. See my blog post here about creating a gallery wall.
- Explore new spaces around your home to highlight work. Reimagine your shelf with artwork, display an easel on your countertop, or place a free standing easel in a low-traffic area.
- If you have older children looking to refresh their rooms, it’s a great opportunity to introduce them to art. Ask them if there are pieces they like from your collection and offer to hang them in their space.
- Switch out artwork seasonally or when the mood strikes. You might see your collection in a new light.
- You might find this unexpected tip a bit unconventional: consider displaying art in your closet! Even in smaller closets, adding personal touches can make the space feel more glamorous and spontaneous. I once gave a friend a street photo I took of her to hang in her city space. It makes me so happy to hear how much she loves seeing it every day.
- It's the trick I think many interior designers recommend. Refresh your throw pillows. Find patterns or colors that complement your new artwork.
- You can also lend or gift artwork to close family or friends who would appreciate it. Not everyone has access to original art, and this can encourage you to visit your loved ones.
I hope you have fun with some of these suggestions and surround yourself in more art!
